A: No, www.thecharterlife.com can be used as a marketing utility that complements an existing website and helps drive traffic to that site or it can be used as a standalone page providing you with your own personalized web presence. Premier members receive their own custom URL that they can use to refer customers directly to their site (Example: H20 charters may have the web address http://www.thecharterlife.com/h20). We do offer custom website development and hosting services and would be glad to discuss this option with you as well should you decide that is something you are interested in. Q: Do you handle booking and reservations for any of the charter services listed?A: Not Currently. We at thecharterlife.com leave the booking and reservations for a vessel up to the owners, brokers, or other experts who have intimate knowledge of the service in question. You are free to list the appropriate contacts for reservations and use thecharterlife.com to help bring more customers to you.
Q: Do I have to be a charter professional (crew, broker, owner, etc.) in order to sign up for an account on www.thecharterlife.com?A: No. While there are certain services on thecharterlife.com that are intended for use by charter industry professionals, there are also access rights for the everyday charter enthusiast (the average user) and non-charter Marine Industry Professionals. Signing up as one of these types of users will give you the ability to create a “Favorites” list, post reviews, and post messages to the message boards.
Q: Why can’t I see an icon for my Charter Company or Vessel on the map?A: There are a number of things that can cause an issue with the icons located on the Interactive Charter Locator Map. We will address a few of the most common problems here.
- You have provided an address for both your Charter Service and one or more of Your Vessels and those addresses are identical: This is a common issue as the program that is used to determine the location on the map will provide identical coordinates based on the identical address. The result is one Icon being directly on top of another, causing the bottom icon to be invisible. The site provides an area to manually provide a latitude and longitude for your location. A latitude/longitude that is entered manually will be preferred over an address. You can alter the lat/lon coordinates of either the Charter Company or Vessel in order to move the respective icon slightly in any direction. It should then be visible when zoomed in on that location.
- I have entered all necessary address information but my icon is still not appearing on the map: In some cases a street address or even possibly a city will not match exactly when running the conversion from address to map coordinates. In this case it will be necessary to try a different address or specify a latitude and longitude that you know is correct.
- An icon for another Charter Company or Vessel appears where I would expect my company or vessel icon to appear: This could be caused by an issue similar to the one discussed in (1) above. In this case it is likely that another company that is listing on thecharterlife.com has used the same address as the address you are using for your location. This is very common in the case of marinas, small island, or other remote/on water locations. You will need to slightly modify your latitude/longitude coordinates in order to ensure your icons “moves” out from underneath the other icon.
